The Asheboro ZooKeepers faced off against the Peninsula Pilots on Friday, July 15th.

Peninsula was able to get on the board first, with a single scoring one in the top of the first.

The ZooKeepers were able to tie the game in the bottom of the second. A double from Dominic Gorence scored Ethan McKay to even the score.

Asheboro took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Singles from Trent Youngblood and Justin Wilcoxen added one run for the ZooKeepers.

The ZooKeepers built on that lead, adding another in the bottom of the seventh. This run was a result of singles from Trent Youngblood and Chase Waddell.

Peninsula began its comeback in the top of the eighth. Three straight singles added a run for the Pilots.

The Pilots were able to complete their comeback in the top of the ninth, adding one more run. This tied the game at three, sending the game into extra innings.

Extra inning rules in the Coastal Plains League start the inning with two runners on base. With two back to back singles to start the top of the 10th, the Pilots started their comeback.

A home run finished off the top of the 10th, leaving the ZooKeepers with a six run deficit to comeback from.

The ZooKeepers fell short, adding three runs before running out of time. The ZooKeepers lost with a final score of 9-6. Asheboro is back on the road tomorrow when they head to Forest City looking for a win.
