The Asheboro ZooKeepers faced off against the Race City Bootleggers on Friday, June 17th.

Race City, an independent summer collegiate team, struggled to field a team on Friday, resulting in one of their coaches playing in the game.

This game allowed the ZooKeepers to work offensively and prepare for a weekend full of Coastal Plain League action.

Kennedy Jones started off the night strong, with a leadoff solo home run.

A pair of doubles from Alex Pendergast and Drew Rogers added a run in the second.

In the third, Ronald Evans shot one over the wall to make it three to zero.

The Bootleggers put one on the board in the top of the fourth on a sac fly.

The bottom of the fourth added three runs for the ZooKeepers on two Bootlegger errors and a Wade Cuda home run.

The bottom of the fifth sealed the game for Asheboro. Batting around the lineup, three walks and five hits allowed the ZooKeepers to score seven additional runs.

Given that this game was a seven inning game, those runs were enough to qualify for a run rule. The game ended with a Ronald Evans double that scored two RBI’s.

The ZooKeepers hope to carry this momentum into the weekend where they will play Tri-City on Saturday and the HiToms on Sunday.
