The Asheboro ZooKeepers fell to Holly Springs by a score of 5-3 in their season opener.

John Owen started the game on the mound, going 2.2 innings and giving up 4 runs.

He was followed by Johnny Maynard, who threw 3.1 innings while only allowing one hit.

Michael Osmond closed out the game, giving up one unearned run in the game’s final 3 innings.

Trent Youngblood had the first hit of the night, leading off the 4th with a single.

He was immediately followed by Andrew Grande, who went yard on the first pitch of the at bat.
Grande smashed a two run home run over the centerfield fence for the ZooKeepers’
first runs of the season.

Holly Springs ran into some pitching trouble in the 6th, loading the bases on two walks
and a hit by pitch. Bryce Marsh scored on a passed ball to bring the ZooKeepers within one.

For entering the game with only 15 players on the roster, the team held their own and came up
just shy of a win.

The team looks to May 31st, when they will travel to take on the Martinsville Mustangs.
