The Asheboro ZooKeepers had their four-game Coastal Plain League winning streak snapped on Saturday night at McCrary Park courtesy of the High Point-Thomasville HiToms, who were victorious by a 12-6 score.

The HiToms scored a run in the first inning on Zooks started Andrew Simone but Asheboro came roaring back in the bottom half of the frame. Jared Beebe knotted the game at 1-1 with an RBI double that scored Carter French and Beebe later scored off an RBI from Owen Blackledge.

Asheboro extended their lead in the fourth to go ahead 4-1. After reaching first with a one-out fielder’s choice, Jacob Budzik was brought home via an RBI double from Dylan Driver. Then, in the next at-bat, Driver scored after a HiToms throwing error that allowed Carter French to reach first.

The HiToms responded immediately, piling on seven runs in the fifth to pull ahead and another two runs in the sixth to take a commanding 10-4 advantage. Asheboro scratched out a pair of runs in the eighth and had two runners still aboard with no outs. However, three consecutive Asheboro batters struck out swinging to end the scoring threat.

Another two runs by the HiToms in the ninth stretched the lead back out to six runs where it would stay for the remainder of the night.

The Zooks return tomorrow for Faith Night against the Martinsville Mustangs. There will be a concert following the conclusion of the game.
