Asheboro ZooKeepers Internship Accreditation Program

 The Asheboro ZooKeepers are members of the Coastal Plain League, a 15-team summer collegiate wooden bat baseball league, with teams playing in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The league begins play in late May and culminating with the league playoffs, which normally conclude in early August. The CPL has been in operation since 1997 and the Zookeepers have been a member of the league since 1999. 

The Zookeepers are looking for highly motivated, high-energy, college students for our Internship Program!

Our interns play a vital role in the Zookeepers organization. These internships provide a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience and academic credit. Housing will be arranged if needed at NO COST through the team’s host family program. In order to qualify you will need to be an undergraduate or graduate student in sports management, or related field. Internships are unpaid, entry level, 40-hour per week, seasonal positions.

 

SPRING INTERNSHIPS: Mid-January to 1st week of May

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS: Mid-May to Mid-August

 

RULES AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Be on time and present.
  • High level of integrity
  • Be responsible and accountable
  • Have a positive attitude
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Respect fellow interns, players, fans, staff, management and ownership
  • Respect host family (if needing one) and adhere to their rules
  • Dress professionally in required organizational attire

 

BROADCASTING INTERN: (Summer Only)

  • Will broadcast play-by-play for home games
  • Will broadcast/Announce on the road games – platform tbd
  • Will provide color commentary during the game
  • Contribute to pre-and-post game shows.
  • Research and prepare for visitors
  • Prepare game notes, stat packs, and other game-day paperwork.
  • Opportunity to travel with the team and do media-related duties while the team is on the road, tweeting games and writing a game article for the website.
  • Manage and be the face/voice of our YouTube channel

 

GAME DAY OPERATIONS/ FAN ENGAGEMENT: (Summer Only)

  • Responsible for opening and preparing the stadium for each ZooKeepers home game
  • May be required to attend player/mascot/organization appearances in the community
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and balance multiple tasks
  • Community sign placement
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ensuring an exceptional fan experience through great customer service
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
  • Must work all home games and assist in all promotional activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by upper management
  • Must be comfortable in front of large crowds and personable
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Internship is for college credit ONLY

 

MARKETING: (Spring and Summer)

  • New corporate sponsor participation and partner renewals
  • Identification of business group leaders
  • Working on signing up post-game meal sponsors from local businesses
  • Promotional/Sponsor Nights and special promotions
  • Market the organization
  • Host Family relationships
  • Team/player involvement in the community (examples; hosting baseball and other camps)
  • Ticket and Group Sales
  • Internship is for college credit ONLY.

 

 MERCHANDISE AND CONCESSION MANAGEMENT: (Summer Only)

  • Inventory tracking (Consumer buying habits) Identify supply and demand
  • Display, Plan and Stock Merchandise (how to and quantity of each style)
  • POS (Point of Sale) Operations
  • Social interaction with the consumer
  • Internship is for college credit ONLY

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY INTERN: (Summer Only)

  • This person should have their own equipment and be knowledgeable in all aspects of producing videos
  • Will take photos at home games and ZooKeepers appearances to be used on website and all social media.
  • Will be responsible for making videos to be used on ZooKeepers YouTube Channel
  • Will collaborate with Social Media intern on photography coverage and utilization

 

SOCIAL MEDIA /GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN: (Spring and Summer)

  • The Social Media Intern will assist with the marketing strategies for all the ZooKeepers social media platforms: Facebook, Facebook Live, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, to increase traffic on those sites.
  • Will be responsible for making Facebook banners to promote sponsored games, community recognition games, and other special activities
  • The intern should interact with fans for their questions, comments, and suggestions
  • The intern should attend any ZooKeepers Meet and Greet or other appearances
  • Will assist the Operations Manager, along with the marketing interns, on non-game days. Must have experience in Photoshop
  • Internship is for college credit ONLY
