The Asheboro ZooKeepers are pleased to announce that Korey Dunbar has accepted the General Manager position with the CPL franchise. Korey will return as Head Coach for his second year in that position as well as handling the GM responsibilities.

Doug Pugh, in a statement from the ZooKeepers, spoke about how excited the organization is to have Korey coming on board. Korey did an excellent job handling the team in his first year as head coach and we look forward to 2024. Korey is excited to get started and meet all our great sponsors, host families and fans.

Korey Dunbar came to Asheboro after having served as an assistant coach, head developmental coach, and recruiting coordinator at Barton College. Dunbar is originally from West Virginia where he was the 2012 Gatorade High School Player of the Year and was drafted in the 39th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He chose to attend the University of North Carolina where he was the starting catcher for the Tar Heels. In 2015 he was drafted again in the 20th round by the Miami Marlins and has served as an Associate Scout for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Korey commented on the decision, “I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity to lead a great organization on and off the field. I’m excited for the future of ZooKeepers Baseball and what it brings to the Asheboro community.”

Korey and his wife Megan currently reside in Garner, NC.
