The Asheboro ZooKeepers lost 12-2 in seven innings on the road Monday night against the Martinsville Mustangs in the second game between the teams in two days. The Mustangs also defeated the Zooks on Sunday.

The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, the only blemish on a strong night from Zooks starter Danny Thompson, who finished the night with five strikeouts and just one hit against.

Asheboro took the lead in the top of the fifth with RBIs from Carter French and Jarrett Pokrovsky. However, an eight-run bottom of the fifth put Martinsville back ahead 9-2. The Mustangs added two more in the sixth and walked off the game in the bottom of the seventh via the run rule.

This was Asheboro’s sixth game in the last six games. The ZooKeepers will now get two days off for the Coastal Plain League’s All-Star break. The Zooks return to the diamond on Thursday for a road game against the High Point-Thomasville HiToms. Austin Crume and Graeme Simpson will have the radio call on Mixlr.
