The Asheboro Zookeepers lost a thriller 3-2 against the Holly Springs Salamanders on Sunday night after a walk-off single at Ting Stadium.

The Zookeepers tacked on the first run of the game in the top of the third inning thanks to a lead-off homerun from shortstop Cooper George and scored another in the top of the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly from Dylan Driver.

The scoring was halted thanks to great pitching from Zookeepers pitcher Danny Thompson all the way into the bottom of the third where one run was scored. After the game, it was announced Thompson was selected as the Coastal Plain League’s Pitcher of the Week for his two outings agains the Salamanders.

The Salamanders answered back in the bottom of the fourth with their own run and the game would remain gridlocked until the bottom of the ninth inning where the Salamanders would win on a walk-off RBI single.

The Zookeeper’s look to grab a bounce-back win tomorrow at Finch Field against the High-Point Thomasville HiToms for the final match-up of the season. Catch first pitch at 6:30 p.m. on FloSports or listen on the ZK Baseball Radio Network with commentators Austin Crume and Graeme Simpson.
