The Asheboro ZooKeepers beat the Holly Springs Salamanders at Ting Stadium on Sunday in the second matchup between the teams in as many days by a score of 8-0. It was Asheboro’s third shutout win of the season.

The offense was halted by both teams pitching through the second inning by dominant pitching from ZooKeepers right-hander Danny Thompson and Salamanders righty Chirstian Keel.

The ZooKeepers broke through first thanks to an opposite field three-run home run off the bat of first baseman Zack Beach. The offense continued the pace and scored another run in the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Lleyton Lackey.

Asheboro continued to dominate on offense and scored four more runs between the top frames of the sixth and ninth innings.

Batting was not the only firepower on display as the pitching staff held the Salamanders to only five hits in the entire game. Five Zooks pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts.

In their two weekend matchups against the Salamanders, Asheboro outscored Holly Springs 20-1. Saturday’s victory came in seven innings.

The ZooKeepers look to keep up their hot streak as they face the High-Point Thomasville HiToms at home on Tuesday July 25th. The 7 p.m. first pitch from McCrary Park can be watched on FloSports.
