The Asheboro ZooKeepers took both seven inning games against the Florence Flamingos at UNCG Baseball Stadium in Greensboro on a June 16 doubleheader, winning by a score of 1-0 in game one and 5-1 in game two.

In game one, both sides were locked in a pitchers duel with minimal hits being surrendered. Even with such a hard-locked stalemate, starting pitcher Jacob Dienes threw his best outing of the short season. Dienes, who went six innings while striking out six Flamingos and only allowing two hits, left the Zookeepers in a great spot to try and win the first of two games. After handing the ball to his teammate Garrett Kangas in a crucial top of the seventh, Kangas went out and threw a scoreless half inning and handed the bats off to the bottom third of the ZooKeepers lineup. With a clutch single by Daniel Cerda and some sacrifice swings by Jared Beebe and Dylan Driver, the lineup turned over to the newest Zookeeper in Alex Lodise, who was making his debut with the team. Lodise jumped on the second pitch of the at bat and sent a liner down the left field line to score Cerda and walk off game one of the double header.

In game two, the Flamingos got ahead in the first inning with an RBI single from Carson Garner, but the ZooKeepers got back immediately with an RBI single from first baseman Tyler McPeak that scored his Lenoir-Rhyne teammate Cole Laskowski. The offense did not stop there for the ZooKeepers, as Asheboro scored three runs and brought eight batters to the plate in the second to make the score 4-1. With a four-inning spot start outing from Jacob Halford, the first few innings were locked down by the NC State reliever. Halford only allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts. The Zooks tallied one more run on a Todd Hudson single in the bottom of the fourth and retained the lead with a crucial three inning save from Ethan Snyder. Snyder had another phenomenal outing, only allowing three hits with four strikeouts.

The ZooKeepers look to continue their winning streak as they play the Florence Flamingos at Carolina Bank Field for the third time in two days. The game will start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on Mixlr. The broadcast can be accessed here.
