ZooKeepers Slip Up and Fall to the Bananas

The Asheboro ZooKeepers faced off against the Savannah Bananas at McCrary Park on Sunday, June 12th.

Both teams came out strong defensively, with no runs being scored until the bottom of the fifth inning.

Trent Youngblood was able to single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. After stealing second, Youngblood was knocked in by a Ryan Waldschmidt single.

The momentum continued into the bottom of the sixth, where Bryce Marsh led off the inning with a first pitch shot over the wall. That hit made it three games straight with a homerun for Marsh.

Taylor Perret started on the mound for the ZooKeepers. He was able to go for six innings, striking out two and only allowing two hits.

The Bananas pulled ahead with three runs in the top of the seventh on three singles and a fielding error by the ZooKeepers.

Wade Cuda crossed the plate on an RBI from Waldschmidt to tie the game again in the bottom of the seventh.

That would be the ZooKeepers last run of the night.

Savannah was able to tack on two more in the eighth and one in the ninth. Those runs ended the game, with another late game ZooKeepers loss.

The ZooKeepers hope to finish off a stretch of 8 days straight with a win over Martinsville on Monday.
