Three ZooKeepers represent team in Holly Springs

Asheboro ZooKeepers shortstop Trent Youngblood, outfielder Kennedy Jones and pitcher Hunter Shuey
were selected to participate in the 2022 CPL All-Star game, which was held Sunday in Holly Ridge.
Youngblood has had an outstanding season for the ZooKeepers, starting all 32 games in Coastal Plain
League action while posting a .339 batting average, which is currently fourth overall in the league.
The sophomore from Transylvania University (KY) leads the league with 26 RBI on the season
while batting from the left side.
“It’s really cool to have the opportunity to come to this league and get selected to an All-Star game. I
didn’t expect it but it’s really cool and I’m really honored to be able to participate in it,” Youngblood said.
Although the game was an exhibition, Youngblood said he’s ready to go.
“I’m just ready to compete. I’m excited to see all the guys in this league and hopefully have some good at
bats,” Youngblood.
Kennedy Jones has dominated CPL pitching, posting a .420 batting average in 50 at
The right-handed hitting outfielder tallied 21 total hits, including 5 doubles, 1 home run and 12 runs batted
in during his 13 games for the ZooKeepers.
Jones earned freshman All-American honors during his first season at UNC Greensboro.
He will not participate in the game due to an injury.
Starting pitcher Hunter Shuey was named to the 2022 All-Star team after posting a 2.16 earned run
average across his first 16.2 innings in the Coastal Plain League.
The right hander held opponents to a .206 batting average, while striking out 19 batters in those 16.2
innings pitched.
Shuey, like his Asheboro teammate Kennedy Jones, was a freshman at UNC Greensboro last season.
Shuey threw one inning in the All-star Game, which the West won 3-2. He did not give up a hit, walked one and fanned one.  Youngblood went 0-for-2.

The ZooKeepers, who are 7-3 in the second half and in first place in the West Division, return to action Tuesday night with a home game against Martinsville. Game time is 7 p.m.
