ZooKeepers Baseball Invitational begins Wednesday at SWR
The ZooKeepers Baseball Invitational, which features four Randolph County teams and two non-county teams, will begin Wednesday at Southwestern Randolph High School. Eastern Randolph, Wheatmore, Southwestern Randolph and Providence Grove will compete in the four-day event. Rockingam and Walkertown have joined the four Randolph County schools.
There will be three games on Wednesday, three on Thursday, two on Friday and the tournament closes with one game Saturday.
“We are really excited to host the tournament and am looking forward to some great baseball games at Southwestern Randolph High School,” ZooKeepers General Manager Dennis Garcia said. “Baseball in Randolph County is always exciting and Rockingham and Walkertown will certainly bring good programs to the tournament.”
The tournament, formerly known as the Copperhead Classic, will be at SWRHS while renovations are ongoing at McCrary Park.
“We are very thankful for Southwestern Randolph coach Ethan Marsh and the SWR school officials who are allowing us to play at their field,” Garcia said. “It’s a great high school field and there should be plenty of excitement throughout the tournament.”
On Wednesday, Eastern Randolph and Wheatmore will play at 1 p.m. That game will be followed by Walkertown and Providence Grove (4 p.m.) and SWR and Rockingham at 7 p.m.
On Thursday, Rockingham will meet Providence Grove at 1 p.m., Wheatmore will face Walkertown at 4 p.m. and SWR will battle Eastern Randolph at 7 p.m.
The final round will have games at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday and at noon on Saturday.
