ZooKeepers Roll Owls
The Asheboro Zookeepers traveled back home to face off against the Forest City Owls.
Just 24 hours before the ZooKeepers suffered a tough loss against the Boone BigFoots that they looked to avenge.
Bryant Beranek got the ball to face off against Brayden May for the Owls.
Blistering Pace
Both teams scored a ton of runs in last night’s contest and it appeared to roll over.
In the first inning combined there was a total of five runs.
The top of the first saw the Owls strike first with an RBI double from catcher Drew Lanphere.
Beranek was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout giving the ZooKeepers at opportunity to respond.
Respond is exactly what the ZooKeepers did in the bottom of the first scoring four runs.
Center fielder RJ Jimerson who had a three run home run in Macon blasted another one over the wall.
Jimerson belted a ball over the left field wall for a grand slam to give the ZooKeepers an instant 4-1 lead.
The grand slam immediately jolted the ZooKeepers dugout sending it into a euphoria.
Trading Blows
After a very hectic first inning it seemed as though it would be a chaotic game, and it certainly was.
Across the next three innings a combined 11 runs came across the plate.
The 11 runs score in those three innings come after the five that were scored in the first alone.
Out of the 11 total runs the ZooKeepers were responsible for seven of them.
Two of the runs came in the fourth and five came across in the fifth.
All of these runs came after the Owls had tied the game at 4-4 in the third inning.
Both ZooKeeper runs in the fourth were scored on multiple throwing errors by the Owls.
The five run fifth inning was jolted by a two RBI single from Evan Harding.
Pulling Away
As the game progressed along the ZooKeepers continued to pull away.
Another five run eighth inning put the ZooKeepers on top by a score of 17-8.
As the rain continued to pound the field the pitching for the ZooKeepers continued to pound the strikezone.
Caleb Cockerham finished the game off for the ZooKeepers giving them a huge victory.
Final score was a 17-9 ZooKeepers win keeping them alive in the playoff race.
Sunday is an off day for the ZooKeepers and they will be back in action Monday night against Holly Springs.
