The Asheboro ZooKeepers made their way to Hooker Field for a doubleheader against the Martinsville Mustangs on Saturday night. The Zooks won game one 3-1 but fell in game two 8-2.
Game One Recap:
Game one started off with a pitcher duel from ZooKeeper Win Scott and Mustang Dillon Moran. Behind the fire balling arm of Scott, the Zooks put up one run in the top of the fourth inning via a sacrifice fly by first baseman Tyler McPeak. The Mustangs scored a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game at one a piece. An inning later, the Zooks scored two more runs thanks to a two-run single by Jay Dillard that brought home Jake Holland and Alex Lodise. Scott would finish off the entirety of the seven-inning game ending with a stat line of one run earned, two hits allowed and three strikeouts. The Zooks extended their win streak to three games before heading to game number two.
Game Two Recap:
The Mustang bats got off to a very hot start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first after shutting down the Zooks 1-2-3 in the top of the first. Martinsville’s pitching behind the arm of Rigo Ramos kept the Zooks scoreless through five innings while putting up three more runs for their side making it 5-0 headed to the top of the sixth. The Asheboro bats came alive to score two runs and shrink the Martinsville lead to three and make the game 5-2 only to have a quick three-run response by the Mustangs to make the score 8-2.
