ZooKeepers Win Streak Comes To An End
The Asheboro ZooKeepers traveled up to Martinsville, Virginia once again to face the Mustangs.
This would be the fifth meeting between the two and the first of three in Martinsville within the next two weeks.
Leading up to the matchup the Mustangs were undefeated against the ZooKeepers, 4-0 so far.
Bryant Beranek got the call on the mound to face off against Jaxon Lloyd of the Mustangs.
The Game
The first inning of the game flew by as both teams struggle on offensive in the first inning.
Once the second inning came around this is when the Mustangs began to flex their offense.
After a zero spot in the top of the second the Mustangs tagged on the first run of the game thanks to an RBI single from Hayden Friese.
Unfortunately for the ZooKeepers the run in the bottom of the second was only the beginning for the Mustangs.
Again the ZooKeepers were set down in the top of the third inning which gave the Mustangs the bats back quickly.
The bottom of the third inning was where the Mustangs took it to the ZooKeepers and eventually put the game out of reach.
Right out of the gate the Mustangs scored two runs on just their first three batters of the game thanks to an RBI single and double.
The on slot of runs kept on coming for the Mustangs as they would eventually tack on another three runs in the half inning.
After the third inning was over the Mustangs got out to a 6-0 lead.
It took all the way till the fifth inning for the ZooKeepers to finally score a run, this courtesy of a James Hankerson home run.
This was Hankerson’s first home run as a ZooKeeper.
As the game progressed along it was easy to see that the ZooKeepers did not have the offense they needed in order to keep up with the Mustangs that night.
While they may have still been down six in the ninth inning they did tack on one more for good measure.
Left Fielder Davis Germann rocketed a baseball into center field that scored Hankerson.
Wrap Up
After it was all said and done the ZooKeepers would lose by a score of 7-2.
The win streak ends at four games and puts the team back at .500 on the season.
They now fall to 0-5 on the season against the Mustangs and will return to Martinsville in just five days time.
Thursday, the ZooKeepers will travel to play High Point Thomasville.
