Mark Weidemaier

The Asheboro ZooKeepers are proud to welcome Mark Weidemaier as Manager for the 2026 season. A veteran of professional baseball with decades of experience at every level of the game, Weidemaier brings unmatched expertise, leadership, and a passion for player development to Asheboro in his first year at the helm.
Weidemaier’s career spans more than 40 years in Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, and international competition. He has served in a wide range of roles, including scout, coach, and advisor. Most notably, he was a key member of the Washington Nationals’ Major League coaching staff, serving as the team’s defensive coordinator and advance scout during their playoff runs. His deep knowledge of game strategy and player evaluation has made him a trusted figure in baseball circles worldwide.
Beyond the Major Leagues, Weidemaier has coached and managed across the globe, including stints in the Dominican Winter League, Korea, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. His international experience gives him a unique perspective on the game and an ability to connect with players from diverse backgrounds.
As he steps into his new role with the ZooKeepers, Weidemaier is committed to building a competitive, high-energy team that reflects Asheboro’s strong community spirit. His focus on fundamentals, discipline, and development will serve as a foundation for success both on and off the field.
Mark and his wife, Tracy, and their three dogs, Fenway, Rocky, and Hope, currently reside in Liberty, North Carolina.
