Korey Dunbar is entering his first year as the ZooKeeper’s General Manager and second year as the Head Coach. Prior to the ZooKeepers, Korey served as the Assistant Coach, Coordinator of Recruiting and Head Development for Barton College. Dunbar, originally from Charleston, West Virginia, where he was the West Virginia 2012 Gatorade High School Player of the Year and was drafted in the 39th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Dunbar chose to attend the University of North Carolina. At the University of North Carolina, Dunbar earned his bachelor of arts in English and was the starting catcher for the Tarheels for three years (2013-15). In his first season at UNC, the Tar Heels won the 2013 ACC Regular Season and Tournament Championship, in addition to a College World Series Appearance.

His collegiate accomplishments include 2014 NCAA Regional All-Tournament honors and a 2015 Johnny Bench Award finalist. His totals at the plate included a .289 batting average, a .484 slugging average, six home runs and 16 doubles.

After college, Dunbar was drafted in 2015 by the Miami Marlins in the 20th round. In 2018, he coached in the Prospect League for the West Virginia Miners as the hitting coach. He was also an Associate Scout for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Out of Season, Dunbar and his wife Megan, reside in Garner, NC and have lived for the past several years.

Korey had this to say about accepting the Field Manager position with the Zookeepers; “I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead the Asheboro ZooKeepers for this year and years to come,” said Dunbar, who spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Barton College where he was the head developmental coach, the recruiting coordinator and camp director. “I can’t wait to make an impact on the incoming talented players, the Asheboro community, and the entire ZooKeepers fan base. I am also very excited to work alongside Melissa Godwin and the entire front office to create something special here in Asheboro.”
