ZooKeepers Drop Fourth Straight

The Asheboro ZooKeepers welcomed the High Point Thomasville Hi Toms once again at McCrary Park.

Coming into the game the ZooKeepers had dropped three in a row including a loss last night in Florence against the Flamingos.

Owen Simmons would be making his first start in some time against Alex Gaeto of the Hi Toms.

Run Fest

The game did not start slowly like matchups usually go between the two teams.

While both teams did not score in the first inning it did not take them long after to light up the scoreboard.

In the second inning, four runs were score but all of them came off the bats of the Hi Toms.

The four run inning was highlighted by a two RBI single by Hi Toms second baseman Ethan Pulliam.

Soon there after the Hi Toms would tack on another run to take a quick 5-0 lead through the top of the third inning.

Despite being down a considerable amount the ZooKeepers fought tooth and nail once again.

A three run half inning was highlighted by a two RBI single from catcher Chase Heath.

The Zookeepers had then cut the lead from 5 to 2.

Back and Fourth

One of the main issues for the ZooKeepers this season has been allowing runs to opponents after scoring runs themselves.

That issue became relevant again tonight and was a pivotal reason for fall behind.

In the three innings that the ZooKeepers scored they immediately gave up runs the next half inning to the Hi Toms.

Close Finish

In the ninth inning, the ZooKeepers entered in down by two.

Hunter Atkins led off the inning with a single but that was not the moment that made it as close as it was.

Down to their final out, the ZooKeepers had Heath at the plate and he about tied it up with one swing.

Heath missed a two run homer by about five feet which would have tied the game.

In the end, the ZooKeepers drop their fourth straight game by a score of 8-6.

Tomorrow, the ZooKeepers will face the Hi Toms once again at Finch Field.

This will be the final game before the all star break.
